This is useful to know for those in organizations who use temp workers via temp help agencies. These fees keep popping up in contracts beyond the duration permitted, and this can dissuade an organization from making a permanent placement they might otherwise want to secure.
For quite a while temporary help agencies in Ontario have been prohibited (with some exceptions in its application) in charging a fee to a client business (in connection with the client business entering into an employment relationship with an assignment employee) after the six-month period from the start of the assignment.
If you work with a temp agency (either as a hiring organization or a candidate) or run a temp help agency, then you should check out the Ontario Government’s guide to Temp Help Agencies and the Employment Standards Act (Ontario) (here: https://lnkd.in/gw5NKdB) to remind yourself of your rights and responsibilities.
